William Wayne Hoggard, 73, of Portales, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2026, at Covenant Hospital.
Born on June 12, 1953, in Whitewater, Wisconsin, William was the son of William Joseph Hoggard and Hilda Rowley. He dedicated many years of his life as a crane operator in the steel mill industry, where he was known as a hardworking and dependable man.
William shared his life with his beloved wife, Penny Pangburn Hoggard, their children, grandchildren and great grand-children.
William had a passion for Harley-Davidson motorcycles and loved watching football and NASCAR. He never met a stranger. Whether he was striking up a conversation with someone he’d just met or entertaining family and friends with one of his many funny stories and tales, William had a way of making people smile. His quick wit, warm personality, and gift for storytelling made him someone people naturally enjoyed being around.
Above all else, William loved his family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the greatest joy of his life, and he eagerly looked forward to every visit. The time they spent together created memories that will be cherished for generations.
William was preceded in death by his parents, William Joseph Hoggard and Hilda Rowley; his brother, Lonnie Hoggard; and his beloved grandson, Tyler Stempf.
He is survived by his loving wife, Penny Pangburn Hoggard; his son, William “Billy” Hoggard, his daughter, Crystal Jones, his stepdaughter, Chandra Stempf and husband, Ryan; his grandchildren, Hayley Furrow and husband, Michael; Jaidyn Stagner and spouse, Savannah; Jersie Wright, Darian Hoggard and wife, Liberty, Annika Jones, Gracie Stempf, Noah Stempf, Joey and Kenzie Hoggard, and his cherished great-grandchildren, Evynn and Austyn Furrow, Carver and Hudson Stagner, and Diesel Hoggard.
William’s legacy is one of love, laughter, hard work, and unwavering devotion to his family. He will be deeply missed, but the stories he told, the laughter he shared, and the love he gave so freely will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m.at Grace Point Church, 207 Avenue K, Portales, New Mexico 88130. Family and friends are invited to join in celebrating William’s life and sharing memories. A time of fellowship will immediately follow at Eagles Lodge #3863 in Portales.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you simply share a story, a laugh, or a favorite memory of William. Those moments of laughter and connection were what he treasured most, and they are the legacy he leaves behind.
