Richard MacHale Mayer II, a beloved member of the community, passed away November 4, 2023, at the age of 77 in Lubbock. Born on August 16, 1946, in Tyler, Texas, to Richard & Betty Louise Mayer, he lived a remarkable life full of passion, knowledge, and compassion.  He married Patricia Shadden on June 22, 1969 and although their marriage did not last forever, their friendship was one of which stories are made of.  

Richard was a man of many talents and accomplishments. After receiving his degree as a dental lab technician, and working in this field for many years; He dedicated over twenty years to owning and operating Goldsmith Jewelry Store, where he provided exceptional service to his customers. His commitment to excellence extended beyond jewelry as he also served as a certified Macintosh Computer consultant. This ignited his entrepreneurial spirit and led him to open his own computer repair business called MacHale Enterprises. Richard's expertise and supportive nature made him a go-to person for all things related to technology in the community.

Despite his successful career pursuits, Richard's true joy came from connecting with others on a personal level. He was an extraordinary host who often welcomed church small groups into his home. It was during these gatherings that he delighted in sharing his deep passion for the gospel. Richard had an undeniable gift for storytelling and engaging others in meaningful conversations. His genuine desire to spread love and faith left a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to know him and his unwavering commitment to spirituality led him down the path of ordination as a minister. Through this calling, he touched countless lives by providing guidance, solace, and hope.

One cannot mention Richard Mayer without acknowledging his thirst for knowledge. He had an insatiable curiosity that drove him to constantly learn and explore new things. This thirst for growth was a testament to his intelligence and led him to become a truly enlightened individual.

Beyond his professional endeavors and intellectual pursuits, Richard found solace in the simple joys of life. He adored his family and treasured every moment spent with them. The love he shared with his dog, Ranger, brought him immense happiness and companionship throughout the years. These connections served as a reminder of Richard's warm heart and unwavering dedication to those he held dear.

Richard's passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. However, his spirit will continue to inspire and uplift those he leaves behind. His forever friend, Patricia Mayer of Lubbock; his son and daughter, Richard "Trey" & Shonda Mayer of Lubbock; one daughter, Amanda Mayer Dean of Taos, NM; his sister, Marsha Mayer Beaudoin; six grandchildren and his loving furry companion, Ranger.  

In honoring Richard's memory, we can strive to carry forward his legacy of love, faith, knowledge, and compassion in our own lives. May we find comfort in knowing that Richard Mayer has left an indelible mark on this world, reminding us all of the power of kindness and connection. Rest in peace, dear Richard - your light will forever shine brightly in our hearts.
