David "Randy" Ussery, a beloved soul whose warmth and spirit touched the lives of many, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2025, in Lubbock, Texas. Born on August 1, 1954, in Munday, Texas to Elva Dee and Naomi Ussery, David was a cherished son of his hometown, where he left a mark not only through his dedication to sports but also through his unwavering love for his family.
Randy graduated from Munday High School in 1972, where his love for sports was born. He later pursued his passion for communication, earning a bachelor’s degree in advertising from Texas Tech University. His ambitious spirit was exemplified in his attempts to try out for the Texas Rangers Baseball team on two occasions; although he didn’t make it, his love for the game remained a significant part of his life.
His true joy, however, derived not just from the thrill of competition but from his cherished moments spent running, playing sports, and most importantly, sharing laughter and joy with his family. Randy was known for his welcoming smile and kind heart, always ready to support and uplift those around him.
Randy is survived by his devoted nephew and nice-in-law, Mason & Meghan Slater of Lubbock. He leaves behind a legacy of love and perseverance that will continue to resonate within their hearts.
He is preceded in death by his beloved sister, Elva Kay Slater, who will forever hold a place in his memory.
