Michael Charles Barr, 80, of Littlefield, Texas, passed away on Monday, March 30, 2026, at 4:44 p.m. at the Lubbock Covenant Medical Center.
Michael was born on April 8, 1945, in Odessa, Texas, to Charles Joyce Barr Jr. and Betty Jean (Clark) Barr. A 1963 graduate of Monterey High School, he went on to attend Texas Tech University.
Following in the footsteps of his father, a WWII veteran who flew missions as a bombardier in the B-17 Flying Fortress, Michael proudly served his country. He went through basic training in the United States Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton and served as an air traffic controller in the Air Force.
Michael’s professional journey began alongside his father who was a gemologist and commodities buyerat Charles Barr Company Inc. in Lubbock, where he worked as head of the commodities branch as a broker. In 1992, he founded High Plains Commodities, a cotton seed brokerage firm based in West Texas, where he continued to work until his passing.
Michael is survived by his son, Shon Michael Charles Barr, with wife, Kia (Morris) Barr, of Lubbock; his daughter, Tammy Barr Hofer, with husband, Stephen Robert Hofer, of Beverly Hills, California; his son, Travis Randall Barr, of Dallas; his first wife, Mickie Anna Rivers; his brother, Kim Douglas Barr of San Antonio; and two grandchildren, Cole and Caroline Barr of Lubbock. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Stephen Joyce Barr.
A private funeral service was held, with military honors provided by the VFW, including the presentation of the flag, a 21-gun salute, and the playing of "Taps" as a tribute to his life and service. He was laid to rest at Littlefield Memorial Park
