Margarita “Mage” Barajas, 79, was born August 3, 1943, in Crystal City to Pedro & Estella Ramon. She married Ildifonso B. Barajas on March 30, 1962, in Crystal City, TX and, moved to Lubbock, TX where she owned the Oasis Drive-In for over 25 years. After retiring from the restaurant business, she went on to work as a cook for the Lubbock State School where she remained for many years. She enjoyed playing softball and watching sports, often commentating due to her extensive knowledge and love for the games. More than all, Mage loved spending time with her family and grandchildren whom she loved and cherished greatly.
On May 15, 2023, surrounded by family, Margarita Barajas also known as “Mage” answered the call of her baptism and went home to be with her heavenly Father. Those left to cherish her memory are her sons & their wives, Alfonso Sr. & Noemi Barajas, Jose Antonio & Irma Barajas, Arturo Barajas, Joey & Karla Barajas, Alfredo & Victoria Barajas all of Lubbock, Alberto & Deborah Barajas of Amarillo; three daughters & their husbands, Edna Barajas Dominguez & Jesse, Azalia Barajas & Richard Gormany, Annette Barajas all of Lubbock; two brothers, Pete Ramon of Austin, Hector Ramon of Lubbock; one sister, Maya Alvarado of Lubbock; ten grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren
She is preceded in death by her husband, Ildifonso B. Barajas (Nov. 18, 2020); a brother Alfredo Ramon; a sister Elvira Arriaga and a grandson Fabian Dominguez.
Services for Mrs. Barajas will be 2:00 pm Thursday, May 18, 2023, at St Elizabeth’s Catholic Church with Father Bob Perry officiating. Burial will follow in The City of Lubbock Cemetery under the direction of Broadway Funeral Directors. A rosary will be held 6:00 pm Wednesday, May 17, 2023 in The Chapel of Broadway Funeral Directors with visitation starting at 10:00 am.
