Leslie “Les” Biffle, 65, of Lubbock, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, surrounded by loved ones.
Born on August 4, 1960, in Lubbock, TX. Les was the child of Michael Biffle and Jacqueline Briggs. He grew up all over, as they travelled for his father’s work in federal law enforcement. However, he always said the South Plains was home, namely, Lubbock and Anton, TX, where he graduated from Anton High School.
Les spent his career as an educator after graduating from Texas Tech University with a degree in English. Beginning in Hartley and continuing through Petersburg and Idalou before ending his career in Welch, Texas, he primarily focused his work on teaching Spanish and loved working in rural schools where he could truly see his impact on students and their communities. In the later years of his career, he began working with students learning English as a second language (ESL), a role he found especially meaningful and rewarding.
Beyond his work, Les lived an active and curious life. He was an avid gym-goer for much of his life and even appeared in advertisements for Nautilus Fitness at one point. He enjoyed skiing, cycling, yoga, spending time at the beach, learning about historical events, and caring for animals, a passion that remained constant throughout his life. Following a mid-life diabetes diagnosis, he became deeply committed to fighting the war on diabetes. After experiencing two strokes, he came to deeply understand the challenges of recovery and became a steadfast source of encouragement and support for others facing similar experiences.
To family and friends, Les will be remembered most for his commitment to helping others. He was smart, generous, and deeply kind. Les was a devoted husband, his daughter’s biggest cheerleader, a loyal brother, and a loving son who meant so much to so many.
Les is survived by his wife, Diane Biffle; children, Brandon (Valerie) Grace, Jeffrey Carter, and Samantha Biffle (David Carlsen-Landy); grandchild, Liam Grace; his mother Jacqueline (Jim) Briggs; sister, Lisa (Craig) Gilbert, and many extended family members and friends who will miss him deeply. He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Michael Biffle and sister, Lauren Brown.
A celebration of his life will be held at 122 County Road 3240, Lubbock, TX 79403, on Friday, May 8th at 5:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the North Texas chapter of the American Diabetes Association via this link or the TTUHSC Stroke & Aphasia Recovery (STAR) Program via this link. Be sure to include the STAR Program in your memo if you choose to donate by check.
In the end, Les would probably just want everyone together: sharing stories, enjoying a cold beer, and taking time to appreciate the people and animals they love.
