Gertrudis Hernandez

Viewing and visitation for Ms. Gertrudis Hernandez, 100 of Lubbock will begin 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m., Friday, June 6, 2025, at Broadway Funeral Directors Chapel (1901 Broadway, Lubbock, Texas 79401). A Celebration of Life will begin 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Broadway Funeral Directors Chapel with Pastor Ed Sena officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Broadway Funeral Directors.

Gertrudis was born November 15, 1924, in Balcones, Coahuila, Mexico to the late Sostenes and Ambrosia Hernandez. Throughout her years, Gertrudis was an industrious farm laborer, pouring her heart into the land and the community around her. Her work was often accompanied by her deep love for gardening, where she found joy in nurturing plants just as she nurtured her loved ones. Those who knew her would often find her tending to her garden, a sanctuary that mirrored her spirit—blooming with life and color.

Beyond her labor, Gertrudis held a strong commitment to her spiritual beliefs. She found profound fulfillment in reading the Bible and devoted her time to visiting the sick, offering comfort and encouragement. Her infectious faith in Jesus inspired others, and her ability to bring light into the lives of those around her was truly remarkable.

As we reflect on the beautiful life Gertrudis lived, we celebrate a woman whose love, resilience, and faith left an indelible mark on the world around her. She taught those she met the importance of compassion, kindness, and hope, and her memory will be cherished for generations to come.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sister Anastasia Hernandez; a brother Donaciano Hernandez; a granddaughter Mandy Ortiz and her daughter-in-law Ofelia Tavera.

She is survived by her son Hector Tavera and wife Diana; a grandson Matt Tavera and two great grandchildren Peja Ortiz and Makai Ortiz all of Lubbock.
