Frank F. Castañeda, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, peacefully departed this world on February 15, 2026, in Lubbock, Texas, at the age of 78.
Born on August 10, 1947, in Bryan, Ohio, to Alberto & Victoria Castañeda, Frank was a testament to hard work and dedication and the fear of the Lord. At just 17 years old, he began his career as a welder, leaving an indelible mark on the communities he served. His noteworthy contributions included his involvement in the construction of the University Medical Center power plant. Frank's passion for his work eventually led him to open his first restaurant alongside his beloved wife, Josefina. In 1983, they founded Josie's Drive-In, which blossomed into a well-known chain of restaurants in Lubbock, fondly referred to by locals as Josies. His legacy continued through his daughter Pauline who opened Polly's Place, a restaurant connected to the Josies brand and whose success would not be what it is today, had it not been for the foundation that was laid before it.
Frank was not just dedicated to his work; he poured love and effort into everything he did. As a man of deep faith, he was Active and Founding member of Right Now Church in support of his son, Rev, Javier Castañeda, after being a faithful member of Pathway Assembly of God church for over 50 years where he was led by his dear friend Rev. Lauro C Hernandez. His unwavering commitment to his church family reflected the core of his character and exemplified the meaning of a Man of God.
Frank enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He relished playing pool and engaging in spirited card games with his family. The nights spent watching old westerns, and movies with Chuck Norris, brought joy to his heart, offering a glimpse into the man who embraced laughter and togetherness whenever possible.
His loving spirit will forever be remembered by his devoted wife, Josefina Castañeda, and their two sons, Frank Castañeda Jr. and Javier Castañeda, along with his daughter-in-law Erika, all from Lubbock. He is survived by three daughters—Elizabeth Castañeda Guerrero and her husband Eduardo, Pauline C. Rangel and her husband Damian, and Dina Cavarrubio and her husband Jason, all of Lubbock. Additionally, Frank leaves behind two brothers, Alberto Castañeda and Juan & Pam Castañeda all of Georgia, and three sisters, Elvira Garza of Lubbock, Rosa Lyga and her husband Mike of Ft. Worth, and Juanita Gutierrez and husband Ramon of Wills Point, Texas. Frank's legacy extends to twenty-seven grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren, whom he adored and who will carry his memory forward.
Frank was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Alexis Breauna Childers; one brother, Victor Castañeda; and four sisters, Rita Cantu, Amelia Perez, Lupe Castañeda, and Jesusa Garza, who will welcome him with open arms.
The family invites friends and loved ones to celebrate Frank's life and the wonderful memories they shared. Visitation will be held at Pathway to the Cross: AG in Lubbock on February 18, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, February 19, 2026, at Pathway to the Cross: Ag with Rev. Javier Castañeda officiating. Burial will follow in Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park under the direction of Broadway Funeral Directors.
Frank F. Castañeda lived a life filled with love, laughter, and profound kindness. His legacy of hard work, faith, and family will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who knew him.
