Deacon Richard Joe Flores, age 88, passed away on August 14, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on August 2, 1938, in Pintada, New Mexico, Richard lived a life marked by devotion, service, and unwavering faith.
A proud Veteran of the United States Army, Richard served his country with honor and humility, ultimately retiring at the distinguished rank of Sergeant First Class at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Throughout his military career, he earned several commendations, including the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Commendation Medal. He was also proud to hold a Sharpshooter Badge, a testament to his skill, discipline, and dedication as a soldier. The values he carried from his service –courage, integrity, and steadfast commitment—shaped the way he lived and cared for others throughout his life.
Richard continued his lifelong commitment to service as an Ordained Deacon, faithfully supporting his church community and ministering to those in need. Throughout his years of ministry, he served as a member of the clergy in Lubbock, Anton, and Littlefield, offering prayer, comfort, and guidance with a gentle spirit. His faith was evident in the way he treated others—always with kindness, humility and a servant’s heart.
Richard was deeply devoted to his family. He was married to Luteria Flores, his beloved wife and steadfast companion, with whom he shared 68 years of marriage -- a testament to their enduring love, partnership, and faith. Together they built a life grounded in love, devotion, and family.
Richard is survived by his children: Loretta Salas, Richard Flores Jr., Ray Flores, Theresa Guidry, and Ann Marie Flores. He was blessed with a growing family - eight grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren – each of whom held a special place in his heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Julia Flores, and by three siblings. He is survived by four loving siblings, who continue to carry his memory forward with pride and affection.
Richard found deep joy in everyday moments. He loved quiet hours spent fishing, the lively spirit of playing his accordion, the satisfaction of riding his tractor across the land, and planting watermelons. He was also a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan, cheering them on with unwavering loyalty. Friends and family often heard him proudly say he “Represented”, a phrase that captured his spirit—proud, joyful and full of heart.
