Belen Velasquez

January 1, 1929 — February 7, 2026

Lubbock

Belen Velasquez, a beloved matriarch and cherished friend to many, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2026, at the age of 97 in Lubbock, Texas. Born in Camp Wood, Texas, on January 1, 1929, to Bartolo & Refugia Perez, she was a radiant spirit whose love and warmth touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

For her entire married life, Belen dedicated herself to being a devoted homemaker. She married the love of her life, Alfredo Velazquez, on April 15, 1950, in Lubbock, Texas. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, love, and countless treasured memories. Belen was a remarkable cook, renowned for her ability to create delicious meals that brought family and friends together around the table. Her home was a sanctuary where the aroma of her cooking filled the air, and the warmth of her heart wrapped around everyone who entered.

Belen found joy in simple pleasures: reading her favorite books, tending to her beloved tomato plants, and watching birds flutter outside her window from the comfort of her recliner. These moments of tranquility echoed her nurturing spirit, reminding all of us of the beauty in life's little things.

Her legacy lives on through her children: three sons, Alfred Velasquez with his wife Terri, Robert Velasquez, Sammy Velasquez; five daughters, Aurora Velasquez, Beatrice and Robert Cabanas, Bertha and Mario Mendoza, Sophia Velasquez, and Belinda Martinez. Belen's love extended to her twenty grandchildren, thirty-four great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren, all of whom were the pride and joy of her life.

Belen was preceded in death by her beloved husband Alfredo, her brother Raul Perez, and one grandson, Landon Velasquez. While her physical presence will be dearly missed, the love she instilled in her family will resonate for generations to come.

Services for Mrs. Belen will be 10:00 am Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church with Father Rudi Crasta officiating. Burial will follow at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park under the direction of Broadway Funeral Directors. A rosary will be held in her honor at 7:00 pm, Monday, February 9, 2026, in The Chapel of Broadway Funeral Directors with visitation starting at 5:00 pm.

Belen Velasquez was much more than a homemaker; she was the heart of her family, a true source of love, resilience, and strength. As we gather to mourn her passing, we also celebrate the beautiful life she lived and the irreplaceable role she played in our lives. May her soul rest in peace, forever held in the hearts of her loved ones.
