Rev. Adela Montez

June 1, 1941 — August 13, 2023

Lubbock

Adela Montez, beloved daughter of Emilio & Eva Paiz Jimenez and devoted minister, has left us to join the heavenly choir. Adela was born on June 1, 1941, in Beeville, Texas, and passed away peacefully in Lubbock on August 13, 2023. She married Clemente Montez on June 1, 1963, in Lubbock and dedicated her life to serving God which left an indelible mark on all those who crossed her path.
Adela's spiritual journey took flight when she was ordained under the Family of God Ministries. For over 30 years, she passionately ministered to others, offering solace and guidance with unwavering devotion. Her commitment to spreading the word of God was a true testament to her character.  For over a year, she pastored Mission Damasco, where she led her congregation with compassion and grace. Adela's leadership never wavered; even during difficult times as she always remained steadfast in her mission.  She had a deep love for praise and worship—the melodies lifting her spirit and connecting her soul with God. She found solace in studying the word of God and prayer as she became known as a prayer warrior within her community. Her unwavering faith touched many lives and brought hope to those in need. Outside of her spiritual pursuits, Adela had a guilty pleasure—shopping at QVC. It was one of the ways she indulged herself and found small moments of joy amidst life's challenges. Above all Adela cherished the time spent with her family, always finding joy in their company. Adela's grandchildren held a special place in her heart; their laughter brought light into her life.

Adela will be dearly missed by all who knew her, but her memory will live on through her surviving family members: her son Clemente Montez Jr. and his wife Linda; five daughters and their husbands: Dalia & Roy Rivera; Dianne & Eduardo Irizarry; Vangie & Dois Hobbs; Christina Montez; and Adrienne Montez. In addition to her children, Adela is survived by her brother Lionel Jimenez; twenty-seven grandchildren; fifty-five great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband of thirty-seven years, Clemente Montez Sr.; her son, Christopher Montez; nine siblings, Elida (Vidal) Cavazos, Erineo (Lupe) Jimenez, Candelario (Mary) Jimenez, Emilio (Estella) Jimenez, Jose (Rosita) Jimenez, Josefina (Nick) Gomez, Adan (Helen) Jimenez, Horacio Jimenez, Carolina Jimenez

Services for Mrs. Adela will be 2:00 pm Friday, August 18, 2023, in The Chapel of Broadway Funeral Directors with Pastor Trino Paiz officiating.  Burial will follow in Peaceful Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Broadway Funeral Directors.  A prayer service will be held 7:00 pm Thursday, August 17, 2023, in The Chapel of Broadway Funeral Directors with visitation starting at 3:00 pm.

Adela Montez was a beacon of light whose unwavering devotion touched countless lives. Her love for God was reflected in every aspect of her life—through her ministry work, cherished moments with family, and dedicated service to her community. As we mourn her loss, let us also celebrate the beautiful legacy she leaves behind. May her soul find eternal rest, and may her memory forever inspire us to live with love, faith, and compassion.

The family of Adela would like to give a special thanks to the people who helped care for her in her life and in the last moments of her life. Dr. Diego Rivera, Dr. Roberto Solis, Dr. Elias Ghandour, Dr. Carlos Rizo-Patron and the amazing staff of Hospice of Wolfforth, TX.
